The last few week's events and especially the last few days jostled for space in his lupine brain like commuters trying to get the 8.52 am tube with one last hope of being in work on time, but it was his human mind that tried to make sense of them. His human mind that only seconds earlier had been in his human body.
Mingor the warlock had, by using his dark, evil magic, returned Jim Spencer back to the body that had served Jim well back in London. Gregorn and he had sacrificed Jim's chance to remain a man for the benefit of the giant people. Ultimately the sacrifice was to stop Mingor and Strinises from taking over Arbrain, the ancient city - or at least to stop them taking it over without a fight.
