Jake Forest searched for happiness for years, then reconnects with his childhood sweetie, Priscilla, and becomes best friends with the incredible little Bella. Priscilla and Bella showed him the romance and love he knew existed, but had missed until he met them. Jake is a man who thought he'd experienced all of the rites of passage moments - some incredibly good, others not - now that he had nearly used up all of his numbers. Everyone he encountered experienced romance, love, and humor all while struggling to survive. With the incident with Bella in the Raccoon River, he'd come to the conclusion there would be no more of those damnable rites, only good ones. He was wrong in one case, right in the other.
