There is nothing in life that can prepare you for a completely illogical vision. Your eyes are seeing things your brain is not willing to admit could be possible. No matter how unflappable you think you might be there isn't any way to effectively control yourself in this situation. But then, how could you prepare yourself for what we were seeing. We stared up at a bright and clear blue sky! When Michael caught his first glimpse all he could manage to say was, "Dad!?!"As my brain tried to reason with this totally unexpected view, I focused on what looked like fresh new trusses vaulting up into the sky. They were framing the structure we were standing in. The building, this building, was so different from just a few seconds ago! How could this be? The door that had had such dank old paint now had no paint on it at all. The aged blackened doorknob I held was now brightly polished brass. The noisy squeaks were gone as it swung freely in my grip.Michael uttered a question so quiet it was barely audible, "Where are we?" This simple question would puzzle us for quite a while. We stood stock still for what seemed like an hour, but must have been only a few seconds. In that time all of our senses were stretching for any bit of input that would make sense of this bizarre scene. Then, as if on some kind of a que, the thuds of a hammer striking something hard rang out. It didn't sound exactly like what I associate with carpenters at work, but it was close. The sound shook us from our momentary stupor and got us moving again.
