Somewhere in Florida sat a lake near the wetlands and, at this very special lake every Spring, life flourished. All kinds of creatures lived there: alligators, fish, frogs, birds and even otters. The alligators snapped. The fish swam. The frogs jumped. The birds chirped. The otters played. The animals lived together for years in peace, living off the nourishment the lake offered.On this particular morning at this particular lake, among the lengthy water reeds, there was a new sound, a series of drawn-out nasal whines. All the creatures turned their heads to hear it. In between two long strands of waving cattails popped up the heads of one, two, three, four, five, six new baby birds born that Spring.
