This second volume of Craik's biography of Edward Hyde (1609-1674), the English statesman and historian, covers Hyde's life from the Restoration until his death, with an analysis of his influence. "Can England point to one who at once filled a larger part in her history, and left a more enduring monument in the annals of her literature?" Craik asks.
