The use of conventional energy sources (coal, oil, natural gas or uranium) is one of the main foundations of our industrial societies. They produce various types of pollution, on both a local and global scale; they are derived from limited stocks of materials that have to be extracted from the earth's subsoil and will inexorably run out within a few decades.
