The ideal liturgical homily is described in Luke 4:16-30: "Jesus read the SCRIPTURES; he proclaimed, "TODAY THIS TEXT IS BEING FULFILLED, even as you listen.'" He won the approval of all; others rejected him. This form of preaching has been continued throughout the history of the Church. In addition to the language of the scriptures, in the course of the centuries A CHRISTIAN IDIOM AND GRAMMAR has developed - a special heritage of the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, in our day, this idiom and grammar seem to be in the danger of being ignored. And hence, the present proposal-a three-year cycle of homilies that combines the scriptures and Catechesis (our Catholic idiom) with the "today" of Christ's presence celebrated in the liturgy. We hope this book will lead to a re-catechized and re-evangelized Catholicism in our day.
