Cataracts are a major scourge in Africa, leading to blindness, loss of autonomy and insecurity. This study from Kinshasa highlights the transformative impact of surgery: improved sight, quality of life and socio-economic reintegration. Despite obstacles to access (financial, geographical, cultural), the book argues for equitable access to this vital intervention, underlining the importance of reinforced social support and ambitious eye health policies for vulnerable populations.
