Whereas Descartes reset philosophy with the mind, Pascal did it with passion. Pascal was a genius in his own right, making discoveries in fluid mechanics, probability theory, statistics, and more. But he saw a world that increasingly chose to live as if there was no God, so he came up with a bet; Pascal's Wager. It was not a logical proof, or Cartesian deduction, it was Pascalian deduction; an direct appeal to the heart.
