. Flying a lot lower, PC Brian Mitchell is covering school crossing patrols (not very well) and drowning in juvenile shoplifters and paperwork. A forced change of role to area beat officer finds him the involuntary rider of a cheap Czechoslovakian bike with handlebar extensions and dubious brakes (Health & Safety hasn't caught on yet).
A transfer to the New Forest brings culture shock, with ponies, a "pickled parson", a tragic plane crash, car chases, snowball assaults, prisoner escapes, and the infamous Miners' Strike.
After a bizarrely amusing attempt to move force, he finds himself working in the vice area of Southampton, where, during an armed robbery, a punctured tyre affects the course of his personal history. From CID aide in Portswood to detective training in Liverpool, the former superintendent transitions from PC to DC in this thoroughly entertaining, at times reflectively serious, yet immensely humorous sequel to the 5* rated "Can I Pee in Your Helmet?"
