Wilfred, a moderately contented shoe salesman with a troublesome father, meets a prognosticating lizard wizard (or is it wizard lizard?) who sends him on a vital mission to locate a missing supernatural hero to save the world from impending doom. Also sent on this quest are a woman who enjoys chemistry, a questionable bard with a questionable instrument, a suave, mostly law-abiding adventurer, a warrior wielding a living weapon, an elite Amazon, and an ogre lumberjack with a stuffed toy rabbit named Manny.
