Agriculture can either sustain or degrade the environment. The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment has documented agriculture’s main negative effects on land and freshwater, as well as the importance of agricultural landscapes in providing products for human sustainance, supporting biodiversity and maintaining ecosystem services.
