Energy, Environment, and Climate explores energy use and its environmental impacts, including climate change. The book covers basic science concepts as well as contemporary applications in energy production and its environmental consequences. The first eleven chapters of the book treat individual energy resources, the technologies used to exploit them, and their environmental impacts. The next four chapters recognize climate change as the most significant global impact of our energy use. These chapters explore basic climate science, human and natural climate-change agents, the evidence for climate change, and projections of future climate, including conclusions from the 2007 IPCC report. The book ends with a synthesis of energy and climate issues. Throughout, its emphasis is on science and technology, but societal and economic issues are included where appropriate.
