As far as Evan Flachion is concerned, the future that a seer foretold has come into being. Things have settled down into a pleasant routine, dealing with running the Guild of the Dead and training apprentices is a snap. But then, as Joachim suffers a heart attack, it comes out that the Law legalizing the Preternatural World was perverted from what was intended. Once again the Guild is facing being used to murder those different then themselves and this time Evan is determined that no one will ever be in a position to harm the Guild.All the while, unknown to Evan, the Vampire Council, that Rules over Europe, is unsettled and fearful of the growing power that Evan Falchion has over the Preternatural world. Their answer to the threat is to hire an assassin to kill the Necromancer and all of his kind before he can do as his kind have done in the past and take their will away, making them mere puppets.
