Malaga is one of the oldest cities not only in Spain but in the World, inhabited for almost 3000 years.Malaga has the warmest winters in Europe with an average of 17.3 oC in December through February. The Montes de Malaga protects against the Northern weather systems and it is beautifully situated on the Mediterranean Sea. It has close to 600,000 inhabitants, including many pensioners from Northern Europe.The first inhabitants to settle the site may have been the Bastetani, an ancient Iberian tribe. Their territory extended through the southeastern Iberian Peninsula, which currently encompasses southern Albacete, Almeria, Granada, eastern Málaga, southeastern Jaén and western Murcia.
