Avoiding another assassination attempt on the trip back to Tetherington Hall, Amelia and Rayn with Maddy and Tommy Gerard arrive to find apathy and chaos among the colonists. With their telepathy neutralised they must restore the motivation and training that will keep them all alive in the desert. While defending themselves against internal and external enemies, they have to plan and execute from scratch a clandestine method to get everyone the three thousand miles back to Sundoor. Through a world controlled by differing ideologies, backed with guns, they discover they must go far beyond the extra mile.
