Ephesians 6:17 refers to the "sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." The sword is the only offensive weapon for both the Roman and the Christian soldier, but it is the only one needed. Hebrews 4:12 states, "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." The stories in

show that while Satan has many ways to attack, if Christians are wearing the whole armor of God then they will be protected. And if they take up the word of God, their sword, then they will not only withstand Satan's attacks, but defeat him.
