After the events of The Chalice and The Blood Crown, Cadmus Pariah finds himself haunted by the spirit of Faust, who was brutally murdered by the Dark Child of Night. The ghost compels Cadmus to return to the site of the slain Vampire saint, to try to find the last lost Vampire Relic called The Augury of Gideon. He is joined by Kelat, Dmitri, Orphaeus Cygnus, and others on this journey, not realizing the Augury is much closer than he could imagine, and could possibly pose a grave danger to him.
