"When discussing early ideas, academia typically views texts as a storage of ideas rather than a valuable object of study. This method not only idealizes the description of early intellectual history, but also draws artificial boundaries between textual tradition and philosophical tradition. This book shifts the focus of analysis, viewing texts as meaningful realities in the culture and social reality of the time, and further discussing the material conditions, writing culture, writing, meaning construction strategies, text groups, and the interrelationships between philosophical ideas of ancient world texts. By analyzing different strategies for constructing the meaning of the unearthed texts from Guodian Tomb No. 1, and by examining the philosophical thinking activities of the ancient world that can be judged based on material evidence, this book distinguishes between ""discourse based texts"" and context based texts. It is believed that a new change has emerged in the philosophical corpus of China at that time, developing a complex discourse form that hierarchically organizes thoughts and integrates reality. Philosophical texts no longer rely on the external cultural framework of texts and the tripartite relationship of meaning communication composed of texts, meaning intermediaries, and information receivers, but generate meaning internally, becoming independent philosophical realities. This type of independent philosophical text emerged simultaneously with the rise of manuscript culture during the Warring States period, thanks to the widespread use of bamboo slips as lightweight writing materials, as well as the promotion of manuscript culture exhibitions and increased information flow. They are both products of the emerging manuscript culture and promoters of it.
