30 years after humans lose their ability to dream, genetically engineered parasites known as "Fantasites" give one man hope of meeting the girl of his dreams until a government ban makes escaping reality more difficult than ever before. Charles (John Ferguson) is an awkward loner locked into a lonely existence. But when Charles discovers that dropping a "Fantasite" into your ear just before bedtime unlocks a wondrous world of imagination, he sees a chance to have a little fun and impress the pretty object of his affections. Before long, Charles and his friends are hooked. His dream becomes a nightmare, however, when the government outlaws the popular parasites, and users are forced into black market in order to keep their illusions alive.
