The telephone rang and Doris Vernon answered the call. She wept at the news that her daughter had been found after fifteen years. Overwhelmed with joy she had to hand the phone to her husband Tom to receive instructions as to how they could finally meet with the daughter who had been kidnapped from them when she was just over a year old. Things got complicated very quickly and Attorney Gil Nason had to be hired to prove in court that Sarah Lynn Beeson was actually Susan Vernon. Newspapers were quick to pick up the story and report half-truths in order to sell papers, as Edna and Phillip Beeson did there best to protect Sarah from knowing anything pertaining to the trial. This would not be too difficult as the Beeson family lived in a religious community known as the village where there was no sign of the modern world; no indoor plumbing, no electricity, no telephones or newspapers, and each person spoke old English. Upon the decision of the court Sarah Lynn Beeson was indeed declared to be Susan Vernon, and by court order Tom and Doris Vernon were scheduled to remove their daughter from the custody of those who had protected and raised her for years. With only two days' warning Sarah is taken from the familiar surroundings of an old way of life and thrust into the modern world of the twenty-first century. She must learn how to adjust to her new life as she becomes reacquainted with the family she was stolen from so many years ago.
