Mary was a happy little girl.
Her idyllic days end with her father's death in 1959. Mary's world shatters. Her mother changes into someone she doesn't recognize. Her mom's new boyfriend makes life a living hell. And Mary's mind can only handle so much trauma.
Mary struggled through life growing up and as a new mother. This was long before mental health was talked about, before disassociation, panic attacks, and PTSD were heard of. But Mary knew a good life was waiting for her, if she could just get her mind and spirit back somehow.
