With tragedy and loss, it is natural for mourners to grapple with the meaning, purpose and direction of life, digesting the raw reality that none are promised another day. Such was the case for Sean and Kasity after the unexplained death of their second child, Waverly. At that moment when relationships sometimes unravel, and many faithful blame God or question His goodness, this couple clung to each other, deepened their faith, and prayerfully sought guidance on how to change so they could cherish each other and intentionally raise their first daughter. Waverly's is now the name of a lively coffee shop in an otherwise quaint and quiet small Texas town. A watering hole for travelers, home-away-from-home for college students, hang out for school-age and retired, date night or game night, family and friends - Waverly's is a place of comfort, community, and love as much as it is a business. It challenges society's norms and religion's routines with the story of love and loss, tracing unlikely events that led a family away from familiarity and security and into the shell of a building to offer life, hope, and an outlet for the love of a lost child. More than a story about people, it is a testament to the larger story of God's present relationship with us, evidence that He still works, guides, and calls us to be active in His living Kingdom.
