Gmelch (anthropology, Union College) collects 27 essays on global tourism, written by North American and international scholars in anthropology, sociology, history, geography, and folklore. The essays are organized by themes of tourism and the tourist experience, marketing culture and identity, when tourists and locals meet, and the impact and implications of tourism. Although domestic tourism is discussed in several articles, the focus is on international tourism and the impact of the cross-cultural encounter.
