Fragments, hitherto unpublished, of HW's rough draft, mounted and framed (with silhouettes by Hubert and Lady Hamilton). Now (November 1939) in the possession of the Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York. The memoranda below were doubtless to be used somewhere in this letter, since they refer to things in D's letters of ante 14 Oct., 28 Oct., 1 Nov., 11 Nov., and 15-22 Nov. 1772 (this last letter was delivered to HW by Craufurd about 9 December). D's answer, quoting the date as given below, was written 19-20 December) the fragments were crossed out by HW. Those memoranda which were also crossed out are here marked with asterisks.
