Charles (Chaz) Montgomery is the definition of the Reluctant Hero. Leaving his upper-class family behind and heading West to carve out his way in life, Chaz is confronted with an act so heinous even his years as a Union Officer scarcely prepared him for the cold-hearted brutality of Mr. Addison Hadley. Will the lessons he learned growing up from his Grandfather, Father, and Mother, and four years at West Point, along with his experiences during the Great Conflict be enough to see him triumph? Chaz' hand is forced in order to save not just a family in peril, and a town choked by corruption, but possibly his entire future as well.
