If you are like most American pastors or active church members, then you know that Good Friday worship attendance has fallen off dramatically over the years. It may even seem like it has taken a nose dive, and that it may not be coming back up for air. That is why Pastor MacNeil has written a new liturgy for Good Friday worship. Since 2006 every congregation where he has held this service has, without exception, received it highly favorably. Comments from worshipers include: "I was so moved, it left me speechless." "I will encourage others to come next year." "This is the best worship service I have ever attended." "I had simply been told Jesus died on a cross, but I never knew what that meant until now." "It helped me in my personal struggles with suffering, grief and the loss in death of those I have loved." Pastor MacNeil states, "I found it heartbreaking that worship attendance on Good Fridays at my own church, and churches everywhere, was dwindling year after year." This brought him to prayer, calling out to God for help, for a solution to this problem. The answer to his prayer was this Good Friday worship service liturgy, The Table of our Lord's Passion. The Table of our Lord's Passion worship service is built upon the traditional Good Friday service and the stripping of the altar. In this new service, a table, the Passion Table, is placed in front of the altar. As the altar and chancel is stripped, the drama of our Lord's suffering and death is portrayed as the Passion Table is set. One example of this includes the placement of a crown of thrones on the Passion Table. In another example, three large nails are struck with a hammer and are then placed on the table in remembrance of Jesus being nailed to the cross. This book is a 50-page instruction manual. It includes a sample bulletin and a list of supplies you will need. It has detailed instructions on how to plan, rehearse, and hold your Good Friday Passion Table worship service at your own church.
