After The Battle of High Hill, the surviving Shendoa soldiers flee to every quarter in hopes of survival, and Kaing has made his way to the Keep of Baladone to find his brother has been imprisoned. Promising to help free him, Kaing goes on a quest to raise an army strong enough to free his brother. Kaing begins his epic journey by calling on the ancient Maunths, only to be directed south to seek the aid of others that may have the power to help him in his quest.
