Anton Chekhov (1860 - 1904) was a Russian physician, dramatist and author who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short stories in history. While he wrote several novella-length stories, The Shooting Party was his only novel. Written in the early stage of his career, it offers a precursor of some of Chekhov's most famous literary creations.
