the Shadow of a Fading Empire

430 CE: In the shadow of the fading empire of Rome, Marcus Lucullus Ursinus is toiling to maintain the peace and prosperity of the former province of Britannia Prima. Raiders from over the eastern sea may be the most obvious threat he faces, but the most dangerous challenge comes from growing tensions within the province, amplified by his deadly enemies, the Astrebani. The progress Marcus has worked for, securing the frontiers, forging alliances with neighbours, providing schooling for girls and boys, building a Christian church to appeal to pagans, employing taxes for the good of the public, and supporting competent and resourceful merchants, all appear to kindle disorder and strife. The cycle of history is turning, civilisation is in retreat and, despite Marcus' efforts, the future seems ever darker.
