The Runaway introduces new characters that again change the dynamics of the Reece family and create challenges for both Tom and Joel, as well as their daughter Shara Margaret. Following the near-fatal shooting of both her fathers during the summer, Shara has decided to live with them once more and takes up her old suite of rooms in their large home. She also takes up the challenge to care for and mentor Jared Rory, the kid who ran away and was found hiding in the Reece barn.
