the Rivers Brothers and Prince of Shadows in Bloomington, MN

Krys and Kide are orphaned brothers. They live in exile with their Uncle Horace, who uses them as guinea pigs for his experiments to get back to their magical home. After an accidental explosion, Krys and Kide's guardians quickly move them back to their parents' place of birth where they learn about their magic. The brothers make new friends, take magical courses, and learn about the powerful magical animals. They also learn about the history of their parents' home, and the two classes of magical people: the fae, who control the city, and the shadows who are marginalized and ostracized. The shadows' frustrations are rising upon the brothers' arrival, and whispers of an uprising are spreading. The boys are excited but also struggle to adjust to their new normal. After an argument causes a rift between the two of them, Krys and Kide are left to navigate an unfamiliar magical landscape with the few people willing to help, and events are set in motion that will reveal the brothers' great destiny.
