We live in a culture in which everything is fast-paced. From secular vocation to pastoral ministry and from raising children to spending time on vacation, everything and everyone seems to being traveling in the fast lane. What we desperately need is to slow down and spend time in prayer. We often wonder why we are spiritually weak, but we rarely consider turning off the TV to spend time in the prayer closet. As I began to research works on the subject of prayer, I was regrettably surprised to see that the vast majority of writings on such an important subject were owed to either those of Charismatic theology or those who lived 150 years ago during the age of the Puritans. Why is this the case? Certainly there are several good works on the subject of prayer, but woefully few in comparison to Protestant writings on other biblical subjects. This, coupled with my desperate need to learn and grow in the realm of my own private prayer life, drove me to study the inerrant, infallible, and sufficient Word of God for what He would have to say to us in regards to our prayer life.
