Wolfgang Petersen's fantasy fable stars Barret Oliver as Bastian, a young boy still grieving over his mother's recent death. In a bookstore, he finds the strange book that lends the movie its name; as Bastian begins to read it, the pages come to life, and he is swept away to a magical land called Fantasia.
