The Maternal Effect is a collection of essays that discusses in thorough detail the most consequential and life-changing values and life-long lessons that were taught, modeled, and in many cases, expected by the author's mother from very early in his childhood, growing up in his native Barbados. Dr. Sylvester Carrington paints a very transparent and honest picture that accurately communicates the idea that being poor is not an indication that the richness of a sound character, hard work, and the other wholesome values of respect, education, and religious awareness can't take root and blossom into something beautiful and positive.
This project is a public acknowledgment of his late mother, and others like her, and of the personal sacrifice, guidance, foresight, and the desire for something better on his behalf, his siblings and his peers.
