He turned randomly left and right and circled a roundabout three times as if he didn't know which way he wanted to go. The green car fell back a few cars but stuck with them. He exited the roundabout when he could see that a horse and buggy was up ahead. The carriage had two tourists more interested in each other than the scenery. There was oncoming traffic but if he timed it right... "Hold on." He pushed the accelerator to the floor hoping the car had enough power to do what he needed. The car shot forward and he shifted up a gear. "Jake...you won't get around in time. There is a car coming. Jake!" "I see it." Jake cut out around the horse and buggy and pulled back into his lane with inches between his right front fender and the bumper of the oncoming car. He was aware of the startled faces of the tourists as they whizzed by, the fist-shaking of the horse cabbie as well as the horns of the oncoming cars. He slowed only slightly, trying to put distance between them and the green car. Checking the rear-view mirror, Jake saw exactly what he had hoped to see. The green car was stuck behind the buggy as there was now a steady stream of oncoming traffic. He could see the passenger with his head and shoulders out of the window shouting at the cabbie. After rounding the next corner, he reduced his speed to the limit trying to blend back into the traffic. He took the next four turns at random but at the same time trying to head towards the coast. Finally, when he was sure he had lost them, he pulled off onto the side of the road. Rachel was white faced and gripping the door handle as if the door was about to fall off the car. "D-o-n-'-t y-o-u e-v-e-r do that again! You could have killed us or the people in the buggy or in the oncoming car or all of us for that matter." Her voice increased in volume with every word. Jake and Rachel combine their knowledge in a race against time to find the treasure hidden long ago by a Knight of St John. Using the few clues they have, they must explore Malta without giving away their progress. Others are willing to stop at nothing to prevent them from finding the treasure. Will they succeed? Will they overcome their differences and work together? How far with their relationship blossom?
