While the Ridgeback is praised for its suitability to the southern African environment, in which the breed was born -- and while the Ridgeback is known primarily as a scent hound, hunter and protector -- it is little known today that the Bull Terrier once, historically, fulfilled these same functions in southern Africa. There are also strong clues that the Bull Terrier contributed to the genetic make-up of the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed. This book discusses the numerous clues and indicators that the Bull Terrier formed one of the many breeds that went into the creation of South Africa’s National dog, the Rhodesian Ridgeback.
