This is a lighthearted science fiction tale of intrigue woven into a background of gangsters and alien beings consisting of intelligent energy. The sex and violence is portrayed with tongue in cheek. The heroes are an unlikely team of human hosts, with alien energy implants, that have difficulty in getting along with each other but are bound together in a common dilemma, caught between vicious gangsters and their alien masters. A middle aged mob "hit man" of Italian ancestry with an attractive young wife is forced to team up with a brash young computer designer of African American ancestry. The story follows their escapades, along with others like them, to ultimately, successfully fend off an attack on Earth from another alien species before releasing 6hemfromtheir bondage.. Both partners had previously submitted to implantation by the alien beings and later regretted their choice. The alien beings, represented by an inner voice known only as "Primus," do not understand humans or their values. The alien energy force regards it's humans as pets. When Primus becomes too fond of his "pets" to let them resolve their own difficulties, the alien interferes just enough to make matters worse. The situation gets out of hand and Primux is forced to implant the young wife, who joins the team. The story culminates in a bizarre sequence of events where everything develops too rapidly for the initial partners to cope with, especially since they are always bickering. The young wife of the middle-aged "hit man" asks to be implanted and Primus, being at the end of his patience, accedes. Lisa then takes charge and directs the two out of their difficulties. When all is returned to normal, Primus agrees with Lisa's suggestion and allows them to terminate their agreement. Primus directs the three through the removal of their implants, leaving them with some remaining benefits, such as great strength. The aliens retain the means and option to re-contact them in the future. They then, without alien assistance, find themselves on their own, trying to figure out what to do with their lives.
