is, to use the most apt critical phrase, wicked awesome. An all-female trio from Okinawa,
are in fact as tight and disciplined as a 1970s funk revue. Drummer
and bassist
have impressive technical chops, but the key to these 15 songs is that they both play hard and in the pocket: with songs like
may be the only Japanese noise rock band it's possible to dance to. Guitarist
moves back and forth between metallic shredding and an intensely rhythmic, choppy style that recalls vintage
, and her unexpectedly melodic vocals add another point of entry for newcomers to the style who are unnerved by the unhinged screaming coming from other quarters. But even screamier tunes like
and
are so appealing in their rhythmic aggression (very similar to many of the U.K. post-punk groups of the generation of
) and sly riff hooks that
is approachable by anyone who finds the likes of
