The author was born in Goa, resident in Uganda for some years and now lives in Canada. This is a novel about the people of Goa waking from centuries of Portuguese rule only to find their struggle inherited by the same classes who had aided and abetted their colonial rulers. In this new world there is only a ruthless competitiveness in which the worst rise to the top.
