The Finca: A mid-life adventure in the Catalan countryside in Bloomington, MN

Malcolm and Lyndsay had travelled down to purchase a small 'lock-up-and-leave' townhouse on the banks of the Rio Ebro in Catalunya to further Malcolm's dream, where every year for most of the previous decade he had undertaken his annual pilgrimage to fish this mighty river. They left a few days later having purchased a dilapidated and tired old finca, which nestled in the centre of a spectacular valley of olive terracing. "We will restore it to its former glory and open a fishing lodge". A tall order, with their background. The story isn't just one of DIY, it tells you a little about what life was like amongst these wonderful rural folk, how they made some lifetime friends and learnt much about an area steeped in history from the ravages of the civil war some 70 years earlier. The story culminates in their first guest fishermen and the pleasure seeing each achieve their personal ambition to search the depths of this mighty river for the huge carp and catfish that frequent its waters.
