the driftwood boys: in Ocean City

I'm driving along some small tree-lined two-lane road when the street veers towards this lone guard shack and as I come to a stop, a guard comes out and says to me in a coarse sorta way... "State your name and purpose" And I say, "err, my name is... ahhh, Jimmy-boy... Fitzzzbaggg... and... ahhh... well, I have a book I'd like you to read" where I've obviously elongated the 'Fitzbag' bit just a wee-bit more than I should've but then again, when one is an idiot-fool then maybe he (or I) ought step up to the plate and take a swing at it to see what happens. "So what kinda story is it?" ...you ask. "It's a story about youth, friendship, and life in a little ocean city town in some mid-Atlantic USA state that sometimes dances on the edge of pleasantry as it did for us during the summer of America's 'Happy Bicentennial' (1976)... where we chased after summer dreams as boys and girls of different stripes swinging to the musical tunes blasting under the boardwalk's carnival lights. And of course, there's a bit of sex & rock-n-roll there too; it was the seventies, after all". "And... is there anything more to it than that?" ...you ask. "Well... maybe there's a bit more to it than that, after all, there was a racial awakening during this time that should have enlightened us more than it did, and a 'war-patriots vs. peace-patriots' argument over worn-out domino theories gone completely nuts, and there were even mental health issues we failed to acknowledge even though it danced so disturbingly close in our heads. But other than that, it's just a story of youth and fun and life and death". So welcome... to the story of the 'driftwood boys'
