Lev Gleason published comics with a definite law & order theme – the good guys and bad
guys were easy to tell apart, with few shades of gray. This was by rules that were not only
strictly enforced, but published publicly in the comics. This clear-cut division between
lawmen and outlaws didn't hamper the creativity and entertainment of the books, however –
which were popular in their day and even today. DESPERADO offered "true" stories of
western legends, good and bad, and did not shy away from action and violence, even having
