The first six issues of Fox Features' comic series ZOOT COMICS were a mishmash of funny animal antics with some adventure tales. ZOOT COMICS #7 went in a different direction. The front cover, drawn by the amazing Jack Kamen, is the first appearance of Rulah, jungle goddess, with interior artwork potentially by Matt Baker. Jane Dodge's airplane crashes in the jungle. Her clothes shredded Jane creates an outfit comprised of giraffe hide and parachute cords. She then goes in search of people. After some altercations the villagers of Towla have Jane fight a leopard to prove her worthiness, then designate her Rulah, their "jungle goddess." Also included in this issue is the six page HARRY, a teen humor story and a thrilling adventure of ace reporter Joan Mason. This collection is missing the two page prose story "JANIE RUNS FOR MAYOR" and both sides of the back cover. Issue #8 has a ten page science fiction yarn starring Rick Evans, as well as a five page sports story featuring boxer One Round Hogan. By issue #10 Fox figured out that Rulah was the queen of sales for ZOOT COMICS and opted to have her be the star of all three stories in each issue going forwards. THE COLLECTED ZOOT COMICS VOLUME TWO assembles issues #7-12 of this exciting and exotic series.
