The Boy and the Penny

Whenever you see a penny, do you immediately pick it up without hesitation, or do you take the time to flip it over, if possible? When a young, homeless boy stumbles upon a shiny penny, he has to decide whether he should take it, and buy himself something nice, or if he should flip it over for the next guy. Maxine Yumul highlights the decision-making process when deciding if we should help ourselves or think about someone else first. Inspired by boredom in one of her high school classes, this story about sacrifice goes along with scene-setting illustrations and a wild experience behind it.
