Tale of A Hamster

A high interest, lower level story for language-impaired students or English language learners. Explores the emotions, curiosity, and new-found emotions stirred by a young boy who experiences the love of a first pet. Aaron is a boy who struggles in school and with the emotional makeup of being a divorce child. He is torn with hopes of his parents reuniting and wanting a baby brother. He tells all his secrets to Kirby, his hamster. When Kirby is presented with a houseguest, another hamster that belongs to his friend in the building, Samantha, she just spins on her wheel, but Aaron is convinced that the two hamsters have fallen in love. Aaron is delighted by the prospect of the two having babies. After all, Samantha's mother said, "Don't put them together whatever you do because they could mate or fight each other to death depending on their sex; Aaron begins to understand that babies are made a lot differently than what he always thought. He was growing up, and a lot of things were changing. The story touches upon expectations, disappointments, and realizations about life that young readers can relate to with enthusiasm.
