After battling infertility for years and discovering cancer was the cause, the dream of having children would only be possible with a third party donor for the Chattertons. This is the case for many families and that's the origin of this children's book. Tad the Squirrel helps to simply explain that there are many ways families come to be, and parent/child connections are more than just skin deep. It's a story of realizing differences but also seeing that "family" is more than just DNA.
