It's the 19th Century in America, perhaps the most pivotal, divisive, and violent period in American history. This book introduces you and follows three young African Americans as they navigate life during the turmoil dividing the country between 1845 through 1876. A time crucial to seeking the opportunity to determine the direction of their lives and hoping to establish their rights as citizens. We meet George, Pauline, and Gee at 17, 15, and 8 years old when, as most young people, they are full of hopes and dreams. We get to know and understand them through their fascinating journey through adulthood.
