Moore (1852-1933) was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet, art crtic, dramatist and memoirist. He studied art in Paris in the 1870s, befriending many of the leading French artists of the day, but soon turned to literature - his work showing the influence of the French realists. This novel was first published in 1888.
