When Douglas Temple (Burt Reynolds) travels to New Guinea in the company of archaeologist Dr. Sybil Greame (Susan Clark), the two discover a strange tribe of ape-like people. Convinced that this tribe represents the "missing link," they must struggle to prove that these creatures are more man than beast to save them from a tragic fate.
